Microblading eyebrows is one of the most precise and best techniques for sculpting eyebrows, which is why it has become a very popular service at beauty salons across the country. However, microblading is vastly different from other eyebrow shaping and sculpting methods as it is a semi-permanent application. It requires more commitment than the classic eyebrow shaping techniques but is less permanent than permanent makeup tattoos.

Is Microblading Eyebrows Right For Me?

Microblading eyebrows is a semi-permanent tattooed eyebrow shaping and shading, very similar to permanent makeup though less exhaustive. This is different from standard cosmetic tattoos, as tattoos are made with ink and microblading is done with pigment.

Also known as microblading tattooing, microblading implants pigmentation under the skin in a custom shape on the eyebrow. However, since it is less exhaustive than permanent makeup (less pigment is used and it is concentrated in one area) there is less permanence to the application as fading will occur. This is desirable as the microblading will appear more natural and allow for changes in shape and shade over time.

However, you should also know that it isn't for everyone.

Microblading eyebrows is best suited for those who want to rebuild, define or fill in their current eyebrows. It is also better suited to a slight arched eyebrow rather than a dramatic arch or straight line.

That said, if you are looking for an eyebrow service of this nature, microblading may be your best option. I am happy to consult with you prior to booking your microblading session to make sure that it's your best course of action.

How Does Microblading Work?

Microblading is a two-stage process. The procedure is not quick, so be prepared to devote a good few hours to it. However, the time spent in the chair will pay long-term dividends in the appearance of your newly microbladed eyebrows.

First, you'll sit down and design the eyebrow shape that you want with a stylist. Much like getting a tattoo, a custom shape will be designed and then penciled onto the site. This will make up at least half of the procedure, ut is certainly the most important part.

Make sure you are completely happy before proceeding!

Then, a topical anesthetic is applied to numb the area prior to the application. For the microblading itself, a tattooing pen with ultra-fine needles and pigment is used to draw in your eyebrows line by line - with each line appearing as an individual hair - until complete.

The finished product will appear darker and more intense at first, but will begin to fade naturally within a few days. Some redness and swelling, just as with a tattoo, is going to be normal and you will have to follow an aftercare regimen.

You'll also want to schedule a touch-up for 6 to 12 weeks after the first treatment. However, your new eyebrows should last 1 to 3 years before needing reapplication!
