Care and Maintenance

  • We naturally shed our eyelashes, so infills (added extensions to prolong the extension set) are recommended every 2-3 weeks to keep them full.
  • Avoid getting your extensions wet for 24-48 hours after application for the adhesive to fully set.
  • Resist touching your lashes as best you can. Excessive touching, twisting, and pulling of your lashes will increase the likelihood of your natural lash coming out.
  • Try to avoid moisture rich products directly on your lashes. A good tip during shampooing is to tilt your head back.
  • Gently groom your lashes by combing your lashes with an eyelash comb to put them back in place and maintain that wonderful fan shape.
  • Be gentle when removing eye makeup; a cleansing wipe is more effective than a cotton pad.
  • You can do a lot to help maintain lash health by using growth serum and eyelash conditioner. This will help the natural eyelash stay put longer and therefore your extension will last longer also. Ask us about great products to maintain eyelash health and prolong your extensions!!

Eyelash Extensions FAQ

How Long Do Eyelash Extensions Last?

Although there are three general types of eyelash extensions, all of them share the same lifespan. The overall life that you can get out of a lash extension is six to eight weeks, depending on a few factors. How long an extension can last depends on the life cycle of your real eyelashes. The reason for this is that an extension is attached to your real eyelashes, so they can only hold on until your lashes begin to shed. The typical life cycle of an eyelash is anywhere from two to eight weeks.

Naturally, each individual eyelash has its own life cycle, so a lash extension will not fall out until most of the eyelashes have shed off. Once eyelashes begin to shed, you can extend how long extensions last with a fill-in treatment. So, while some factors can cause your extensions to fall out before they have lived an average life cycle, there are also plenty of methods to extend how long they last.

Do Eyelash Extensions Ruin Your Natural Lashes?

Extensions should not ruin your natural eyelashes. However, damage to the natural eyelash can occur from an extension being applied incorrectly or by using an extension not suited for your natural eyelash. For instance, using extensions that are too heavy for your lashes will make them begin shedding before they should. Even something as simple as rubbing your eyes could result in your extensions being torn off along with your natural eyelashes.

There are also factors that you can’t control, such as rubbing your eyes during sleep or having short eyelash life cycles, that can cause your extensions to fall out quickly.

That being the case, eyelashes are still simply hair. That means that, unless you have a special circumstance, your eyelashes should grow back without issue. While lash extensions themselves cannot cause damage to your natural eyelashes, in the case that something does occur, you can expect to see your lashes return within one to three months as part of their natural life cycle.

Can You Put Mascara On Lash Extensions?

The only lash extension that can be compatible with mascara is classic extensions. You cannot apply mascara to other lash extensions, such as volume lashes or any other type of hybrid. The mascara must be oil-free.

When you apply mascara to volumized lashes, you are adding a significant amount of weight to your extension. This extra weight can cause your natural eyelashes to start shedding prematurely. Unlike classic lash extensions, you are applying mascara to multiple lashes, so the overall volume added is more than enough to cause issues.

Finally, most mascaras contain oils that, when in contact with the adhesive used in extensions, can weaken their strength. When the oils in mascara are kept on the extensions for hours at a time, they can cause the extensions to fall out prematurely.

Can You Still Wear Eyeshadow with Eyelash Extensions?

There is no problem with using eyeshadow along with lash extensions. However, there are some things to keep in mind when deciding to use any makeup with lash extensions. Some eyeshadow formulas are perfectly safe to be used with extensions, such as powdered, liquid, and pigment eyeshadow.

The rule of thumb to remember is that the harder it is to remove the chosen eyeshadow, the more likely you are to cause damage to your extensions. Additionally, oil-based eyeshadows can create plenty of opportunities to ruin your extensions. The oils they are based on can weaken the adhesive used in the extensions and cause them to fall out.

When removing eyeshadow, be careful when using lash extensions. If you accidentally manage to tug on your lashes, you risk having your natural eyelashes fall out and, with them, the extensions.

How Do You Wash Your Face With Eye Lash Extensions?

You should begin by removing any makeup on your face with the appropriate method. Then you can start washing your face by dunking your washcloth in water. Water that remains stuck to your extensions can create extra weight and make you feel uncomfortable. Using the washcloth, lightly dap your face to get rid of any dirt or residue from your makeup and cleanser. Afterwards wash your eyelash extensions with lash shampoo which can be purchased from your lash technician.

Unfortunately, one cycle of this process probably won’t be enough to completely wash your face, so you should repeat it until you are satisfied. Makeup can be really harmful to your skin if kept on for longer than needed, and since extensions hinder your ability to wash your face, you should be extra careful to make sure your pores are not getting clogged up.

Do Eyelash Extensions Look Natural?

The answer to this question varies depending on what type of lash extension you used, who applied it, and what materials were used.

If you want your eyelashes to look as natural as possible, then let your technician know this before they start applying your extensions. Research who you are getting this service from, as lash extensions can last at the very least a month, so you want this job to be done right.

The most natural type of eyelash extension is the classic extension, as they add almost no volume to your lashes, keeping them looking rather normal compared to other extensions. Classic eyelash extensions will make your natural eyelashes appear thicker and longer, but avoid ones that mention the word “volume” or “fans.”

Finally, pick between natural or synthetic materials. Natural materials will look more real than synthetic materials, but they will be prone to falling out more quickly if they are not taken care of properly.
